This laptop is great for gaming, but its hardware is serious business
Who says laptops are just for official work? They can be a good substitute to PlayStations too. For evidence, this new gaming laptop from Taiwanese PC maker ASUS is a powerful gaming notebook equipped with Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M graphics and Intel i7-2630QM CPU. It is an upgrade of its G73 model, adding Nvidia?s latest GTX 560M in replacement and a few more changes in design and specifications. The laptop is equipped with one of the fastest mobile processors, Intel Core i7. The product is a direct competition to the Alienware M14x.
The look of this gamer?s paradise is heavy and bulky at first glance. The laptop has an angular look with polygonal shape. There is no high class lighting system in the laptop as it is in the Alienware M14x. It is covered with rubberised black colour with plastic matte finish. Having a 17.3 inch display screen with 1920 x 1080p resolution, its colours and contrast are excellent. The right side of the laptop consists of a card reader port, USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port and HDMI. On the left side of the laptop are 2 USB 2.0 ports, Blu-ray drive, and microphone jack. It has a cooler with two fans at the back. It is very heavy at 4.5 kg.
Memory has nothing to complain about. The G74S comes with a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7-2670QM quad-core processor and 16 GB of DDR3 RAM. These components powered the laptop to a score of 8,532 points in our PCMark Vantage performance test. It scored a whopping 14,100 in 3DMark06 at 1600 x 1024 resolution and 12,200 at 1920 x 1080 resolution (highest supported).
The 3D performance of the laptop is of very high quality. It has excellent support for 3D content creation and playing 3D games. The system has a SSD card which results in faster boot up and is about 42 seconds. The battery is an issue to be concerned of. In our IMTEC battery mark test, it lasted for one hour and one minute. This laptop has powerful ventilation to keep it always cool and also it is not noisy as the Alienware M14x.
Gaming is something to be enjoyed, so why not be more comfortable for extended gaming sessions? Fatigue will be a thing of the past, thanks to the G74?s 5 degree incline keyboard designed to provide a better ergonomic angle, as well as super comfortable rubber-like palm rests that is easy on the palm and wrist. There is also more space between the keyboard and number pad.
In a nutshell, gamers should rush and buy this notebook!
