India and Cyprus signed four agreements today including for air services after the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Cyprus president Nicos Anastasiades concluded in the national capital today, a PTI report said. Speaking to media after the delegation level talks between two sides, the prime minister said that India firmly supports the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Cyprus, including its peacekeeping efforts.

The prime minister, while appreciating Cyprus support for India’s claim for a permanent seat in an expanded UN Security Council, further said that during their talks both he and the Cyprus president agreed that there was a need for all countries to decisively act against countries that generate and support violence.

Appreciating president Nicos Anastasiades, for his efforts in leading the country in a new era of peace, security and development, Narendra Modi said that Cyprus recorded one of the highest growth rates in the Eurozone.

“The President and I agreed that India offers excellent investment opportunities for Cypriot entrepreneurs”, he further said.

On his part, the Cyprus President said that today meeting was another step in taking ties between two countries in the next level. He said that both leaders also discussed on Cyprus can improve in the fields of solar energy and Information Technology in which “India is a pioneer”.

Earlier both countries signed four pacts, including on merchant shipping and air services after the delegation-level talks headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades.

“Advancing a multifaceted partnership. The two leaders witnessed the exchange of four agreements after delegation talks and working luncheon,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Gopal Baglay tweeted. The two sides signed an executive programme on culture, education and scientific cooperation for the years 2017 to 2020. Both countries also signed a work plan under a programme of cooperation in the agriculture sector for 2017-2018 period.
