Maintaining image-craft along with stagecraft, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is known for wearing many ‘hats’ and each time all of his sass is truly memorable. It will be interesting to see which hat will he don on this 70th Independence Day, his third as the Prime Minister. While people may argue over whether PM Modi is a man of duty, but one cannot ignore that fact that he is a man of style. On his first Independence Day address he wore a Jodhpuri bandhej safa (turban). The safa is quite commonly seen in western parts of Rajasthan. Widely accepted as one of India’s most well-dressed leaders, on the Independence Day of 2015, sported a bright saffron and green headgear and an off-white short-sleeved khadi kurta and white pajamas.
Modi made history by speaking for an hour without a bulletproof glass from the Red Fort. The Prime Minister’s bright bandhej turban which is ordered from Jodhpur garnered a lot of attention at his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort that year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore a colourful Rajasthani bandhani turban at the Republic Day celebrations in 2015. The Rajasthani flavourwas back from the previous year’s Independence day speecch, while Modi wore a colourful bandhani turban whose tip was tied to form a plume. During the 2015 Independence day celebrations, Modi wore a cream cloured kurta pyjama, beige coloured waist coat and mustard headgear and talked about how popular the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign was.

Interestingly, Modi in the year 2011 had refused a skullcap from cleric Sayed Imam Shahi Saiyed in Ahmedabad during his ‘Sadbhavna fast’. Recently he was in news for his style, as he tried many traditional costumes and headgear during his Africa trip, and also when social media went crazy when he changed his clothes four times in a day during his US visit, where he met Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Sundar Picchai among others.
