Days after the horrifying rape-murder case of a female doctor in Kolkata, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech today, addressed the issue of violence against women. The statement comes after the violence that took over the protests in Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital on Wednesday night. The PM acknowledged the public’s outrage and expressed his solidarity with the victims as he emphasized the need for urgent action. “There must be a swift investigation into crimes against women, and those responsible for these horrific acts should face strict punishment without delay,” Modi asserted.
Addressing the nation on the 78th Independence Day, Modi outlined the government’s plan to significantly boost medical education. He said that currently, many students go abroad for medical studies. To address this, the govt will introduce 75,000 additional medical seats within the period of next five years. He further emphasized the link between health and national progress, stating, “Visit Bharat should also mean Healthy Bharat.”
Modi highlighted the vision for ‘Viksit Bharat 2047,’ describing it as a substantial commitment beyond just rhetoric. He said that if 40 crore people could overcome the chains of colonialism to achieve freedom, the collective resolve of 140 crore people would be wondorous.
In response to recent natural disasters affecting various regions, Modi expressed his heartfelt condolences to those impacted. “Many have lost their families and lives in these calamities. “Today, I express my deepest sympathies to all those affected and want to assure them that we stand with them in this difficult hour,” Modi concluded.
