The much-awaited Delhi section of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) will be inaugurated on Sunday, January 5, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the event in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. To ensure smooth traffic flow, the Ghaziabad traffic police have issued an advisory to minimise disruptions ahead of the ceremony.
At 11 am, PM Modi will visit the Sahibabad RRTS station and take a ride on the newly launched Namo Bharat train, traveling to the New Ashok Nagar station. This newly inaugurated 13-kilometer stretch will link Sahibabad in Ghaziabad to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, passing through Anand Vihar. Upon completion, the extended RRTS corridor will span 54 kilometers with 11 stations, cutting the travel time between Delhi and Meerut to just one hour.
Currently, the operational RRTS connects Sahibabad to Meerut, and with the new addition, New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar stations in Delhi will join the corridor. The expansion plans also include the opening of Sarai Kale Khan and Jangpura stations in Delhi in April and May 2025.
To ensure smooth traffic and avoid inconvenience, restrictions will be in place on National Highway 9 (Sarai Kale Khan to UP Gate – both carriageways), National Highway 24 (Sarai Kale Khan to UP Gate – both carriageways), Ghazipur Road (Kondli to Noida Link Road), New Ashok Nagar Metro Station Road (Sarpanch Chowk to Holiday Inn red light), Ghazipur Nala Road (Kondli to New Ashok Nagar metro station), Chilla border to New Ashok Nagar metro station, and Noida Link Road (Chilla border to Akshardham temple).
