Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday lauded the contribution of Congress MP and his former counterpart Manmohan Singh.

The PM was addressing the Rajya Sabha during the farewell of retiring members of the Upper House.

“I want to remember Dr Manmohan Singh today, his contribution has been immense…For such a long time, the way he has guided this House and the country, Singh will always be remembered for it,” PM Modi said.

He also said that Singh had come vote in the Rajya Sabha on a wheelchair to help strengthen democracy.

The prime minister expressed his best wishes to all retiring members and said that the experience of the retiring MPs will inspire new generations. A total of 68 Rajya Sabha MPs are retiring between February and May after completing their term.

Taking a swipe at Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge for coming out with a “black paper” against the BJP-led NDA government, PM Modi said that he saw it as a “kala teeka” to ward off any evil eye on all the good things done by his government.
