Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has predicted that Pakistan would soon split into two separate nations — with Balochistan making a final push towards independence. The senior BJP leader assured a party gathering over the weekend that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would “100% take revenge” against the other country following the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. The incident last week had left 26 people (mostly tourists) dead and several others injured.

“Bharat was one country. After it was divided, India and Pakistan were formed. In 1971, Pakistan was divided into two countries, and a new country Bangladesh was born. Again, a new country called Balochistan is likely to be born,” a Times of India report quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the Balochistan movement in a social media post — contending that the area had been “forcibly annexed by Pakistan” despite initial negotiations for autonomy. He also claimed that the Baloch people, despite inhabiting a province rich in natural resources, have long struggled with underdevelopment and allegations of systematic exploitation by the central government.

“Today, the Balochistan movement stands as a symbol of an indigenous people’s enduring aspiration for dignity, rights, and control over their own destiny — a struggle marked by immense sacrifice, resilience, and an unbroken spirit for freedom. Over the decades, feelings of political disenfranchisement, economic marginalisation, and cultural suppression have fueled repeated uprisings, most notably in 1958, 1962, 1973, and the early 2000s,” Sarma wrote on Sunday.

The remarks came even as the Balochistan National Party insisted on Monday that it had been left with no choice ‘other than taking up arms’. According to a Dawn report, BNP chief President Sardar Akhtar Mengal also lambasted the Pakistan government for its failure to ‘resolve the issues of Balochistan’. He accused major political parties of focusing on remaining in power and signing blank agreements without any attention being paid to the people.
