13 died after ferryboat with 110 on board capsizes off Gateway of India in Mumbai, while search is underway around a dozen others on wednesday. The boat, named Neelkamal, was en route from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island when it began sinking near Uran, Karanja, in Mumbai’s coastal waters.

The ferry, which was on way to Elephanta Islands near Mumbai, capsized near Uran, a police official said. Rescue work is in progress with the help of personnel from police, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, Coast Guard and fishermen in the area, the official said.

Relief efforts are ongoing, with multiple agencies involved in the rescue operation. Three teams from the Indian Navy, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), the Coast Guard, and local fishermen have been working together to assist the passengers. The Coast Guard has managed to rescue the majority of the people onboard, and the operation is still underway.

Public ferries typically operate from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Caves, with the incident occurring closer to Elephanta Island. The rescued passengers are being brought back to safety at the Gateway of India.

The authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the incident, but rescue teams are continuing their efforts to ensure the safe return of all passengers.
