Omar Abdullah will be the next chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah announced on Tuesday as the party, in alliance with Congress, looked set to secure power in the Union Territory. “Omar Abdullah will be the chief minister,” the senior Abdullah confirmed when asked about the alliance’s choice for the top post.
Farooq Abdullah also claimed the election results reflected the people’s discontent with the abrogation of Article 370. “The people have given their verdict, showing that the decisions of August 5, 2019, are not acceptable to them,” he remarked.
Expressing gratitude, Abdullah thanked the people for participating freely in the polls and acknowledged the challenges ahead. “The elected government will have to address unemployment, inflation and the drug menace. Now, 90 MLAs will work for the people,” he added, emphasizing the end of governance by a Lieutenant Governor and advisors.
