As the counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly elections began on Saturday, National Conference leader and INDIA bloc ally Omar Abdullah took to social media to highlight the tensions between AAP and Congress. In a pointed tweet, Abdullah shared a meme of a saint dissing with the caption, “Aur lado aapas mein!!!” (Keep fighting among yourselves). This hints at the internal rift between the two parties that failed to form an alliance for the Lok Sabha elections and now are struggling to float in front of the BJP in the Delhi elections.

According to reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took an early lead, securing 44 seats, while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was ahead in 25. Congress, which has not won a single seat in the last two assembly elections, managed to lead in one constituency, Badli, where Devendra Yadav is contesting.

The rift between AAP and Congress, which are part of the opposition INDIA bloc, has been a point of contention, with leaders from both sides trading barbs over failed alliance talks. Meanwhile, key AAP leaders, including Chief Minister Atishi in Kalkaji and party chief Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi, are trailing behind their BJP contenders. BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri is winning against Atishi while Parvesh Verma has taken the lead over Kejriwal.

While the counting of votes is still underway, BJP appears poised for a significant comeback in the national capital, much to what the exit polls predicted. This may also end the AAP’s decade-long rule in the capital while Congress is still struggling to find a foothold.
