In a tragic road accident on Sunday, Savitri Devi (70), the maternal grandmother of Paris Olympic medallist shooter and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna awardee Manu Bhaker, and her maternal uncle Yudhveer (50), lost their lives. The incident occurred just 150 meters from their residence on the Mahendragarh bypass road in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, police said.

Details of the Accident

According to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Suresh Kumar, Yudhveer was riding a scooty with Savitri Devi as a pillion passenger when they were hit head-on by a Maruti Brezza car. The collision proved fatal, killing both on the spot.

“The car driver was coming from the wrong side when he collided with the scooty head-on. The impact caused the car to overturn, but the driver managed to flee the scene,” said ASI Kumar. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver’s reckless actions led to the fatal crash.

The car driver has been identified and booked based on a complaint by Yudhveer’s son, Satpal. Police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the accused, who fled immediately after the accident. The bodies were sent to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Details About the Victims

Yudhveer, a Haryana Roadways driver, had left home on Sunday morning to drop his mother, Savitri Devi, at his brother’s residence before heading to work at the Dadri bus station.

The family originally hails from Kalali village but had settled in Charkhi Dadri due to Yudhveer’s job.

The untimely deaths have sent shockwaves through the local community, especially given the family’s connection to Manu Bhaker, a celebrated sports figure in India. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving and the importance of road safety.

Police investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to bring the absconding driver to justice.
