Two university students were arrested by the Noida Police on Friday for allegedly firing shots at another group of students following a dispute, reports PTI.
The arrest came after multiple short video clips circulated on social media platforms, showing a car speeding down a street and individuals firing gunshots into the air.
Following the emergence of these videos, an FIR was registered at Sector 126 Police Station, a police spokesperson said.
“The two accused involved in the attack on students of a private institute were apprehended from Pushta Road today. They, along with their associates, fired shots, assaulted, and verbally abused a student and his companions,” the police spokesperson said.
Efforts are underway to apprehend other individuals connected to the incident.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Sushant Sharma and Paras Dhama, both aged between 22 and 23 years, and pursuing master’s degrees at a local private university.
According to local law enforcement, the altercation between the two groups initially occurred on Thursday over a previous disagreement. While the matter was seemingly resolved, tensions reignited later in the evening and escalated to violence.
The FIR has been lodged under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 323 (assault), 504 (provocation to breach public peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (criminal act done by multiple people).
