A claim has been doing the rounds on social media stating that the government has launched a new scheme, PM Modi AC Yojana 2025, promising free air conditioners to the public. According to the viral message, individuals could register for the scheme and receive a 5-star AC delivered within 30 days. However, the government has dismissed the claim as false.

‘PM Modi AC Yojana 2025’ claim

The Instagram page, UPSC_matters, in a post said, “PM Modi AC Yojana 2025 will be launched in May as per reports and will provide free 5-star ACs for people who will apply as soon as possible!”

“There will be a huge AC shortage in India as 1.5 crore ACs have been prepared for this scheme,” it added, saying that once the applicant’s request is accepted, they will get a brand new AC within 30 days.

The viral post falsely presents itself as an official government scheme. It claims that individuals with air conditioners over 18 years old are eligible to receive a free 5-star AC. Additionally, it states that those without an AC can avail of a 50% discount on purchasing a new one, directing users to the BSES Yamuna Power Limited website for registration.

“Don’t miss your chance!” it further lured users into applying for the free AC.

The caption of the post read, “Indian government to give everyone free AC soon under this mind-blowing scheme to reduce carbon emissions & reduce people’s electricity bills. This new PM Modi AC Yojana scheme will help through it!”

Government debunks viral claim

The claim went viral, so much so that the official handle of PIB had to debunk it.

PIB wrote, “A post being widely shared on social media claims that under a new scheme ‘PM Modi AC Yojana 2025’, the Government will provide free 5-star air conditioners and 1.5 crore ACs have already been prepared.”

The official handle of PIB that fact checks information added, “This claim is fake. No such scheme providing free 5-star Air Conditioners has been announced by the Minister of Power.”

Thus, the viral claim is false. No such scheme by the Ministry of Power, led by Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has been announced or is currently in operation.
