Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) president Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced that he has resigned as the CM of the state. Speaking to reporters outside the Raj Bhavan in Patna, Nitish said, “Today, I have resigned as the Chief Minister and I have also asked the Governor to dissolve the government in the state.”
He said that he had to take the step as “everything was not alright”.
“I was working always. I have also formed the (INDIA) alliance. But no one was working. I was hurt. In Bihar, there was difficulty too. I gave up and stopped speaking on it,” the CM said.
“After considering everyone’s opinions, including party leaders, I took the decision to resign today and asked the Governor to dissolve the government,” he added.
“When I left the old ‘Mahagathbandhan’, and formed a new one over a year ago, I realised things are not well in the new ‘Mahagathbandhan, and the things that were being claimed and spoken, it didn’t feel right,” the CM said.
Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Rajendra Arlekar and is expected to stake claim to form the government with the BJP. The Governor had accepted his resignation and deputed him as the acting CM.
The swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place today and Nitish will take oath as the CM, along with two deputy CMs. Sushil Kumar Modi is likely to be one of them, sources told Financial Express Online.
