The Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday reportedly received a mail threatening serial blasts. According to news agency ANI, the sender of the mail has demanded that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor should step down. Failing to this, the mail says that the financial capital of India will witness 11 blasts and 11 locations.

Teams of the Mumbai Police rushed to all the locations mentioned in the mail but nothing alarming came out of these searches. The ANI report added that the Mumbai Police has launched a detailed probe after registering a case. Apart the RBI office, the mail also threatened to target the offices of HDFC Bank and ICICI.

According to ABP News, which published the screenshot of the threat mail, the sender of the mail accused Sitharaman and Das of executing ‘the biggest scam in the history of India.’ The mail further read – “We have sufficient solid proofs for the same.” The mail was sent by ‘khilafat.india@gmail.com’. The mail also claimed that top banking officials and other ministers were also involved.

Stark reminder of 1993 Bombay Blasts

While the police did not find anything suspicious, the threat mail served as a stark reminder of the serial blasts that ripped through the heart of India’s financial hub three decades ago. On March 12, 1993, 12 blasts exploded in various locations across Mumbai (then Bombay). The serial blasts claimed 257 lives and injured several thousands. Later it came to be known as ‘Black Friday.’
