Covid-19 cases: A nine-month-old baby boy from Hoskote in Bengaluru Rural district has tested positive for Covid-19, officials from Karnataka’s Health and Family Welfare Department confirmed. Initially admitted to a private hospital, the child was later shifted to Vani Vilas Hospital in Kalasipalya, Bengaluru, for further treatment.
Harsh Gupta, Principal Secretary of the department, said the infant tested positive through a Rapid Antigen Test conducted on May 22. “The patient is stable and currently admitted to Vani Vilas Hospital in Kalasipalya,” Gupta stated. Health authorities added that the baby is under medical observation and responding well to treatment.
Covid-19 cases rising in Karnataka?
This case comes amid a slow uptick in Covid-19 infections across Karnataka. Of the 35 active cases reported in the state, 32 are concentrated in Bengaluru. Fortunately, no deaths linked to the virus have been reported so far.
While the overall numbers remain low, health officials note that cases have gradually increased over the past 20 days. The public has been advised to adhere to Covid safety protocols, including wearing masks and avoiding crowded areas, especially in urban centres like Bengaluru.
Kerala sees sharp increase in infections
Neighbouring Kerala has seen a more significant rise in Covid-19 cases this month, with 182 infections reported so far. Health Minister Veena George urged citizens to remain vigilant. Kottayam has emerged as the most affected district with 57 cases, followed by Ernakulam (34 cases) and Thiruvananthapuram (30 cases). The rise in cases has prompted renewed public health messaging in the state to ensure early detection and containment of the virus.
Andhra Pradesh issues advisory amid spike
Andhra Pradesh’s Health Department also issued a public advisory on May 22 in response to reports of increasing Covid-19 cases. Though specific numbers weren’t disclosed, officials encouraged residents to follow precautionary measures and get tested if symptomatic.
With rising cases in parts of southern India, health authorities across Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh are urging people not to become complacent. The emphasis remains on monitoring symptoms, getting tested, and following basic Covid-appropriate behaviour.
