The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday arrested four more key accused in the Delhi Red Fort car blast case, taking the total number of arrests to 6. The probe agency said all these had played a key role in executing the terror attack near the Red Fort metro station that killed 15 people and injured many others on November 10.
It said the four accused were taken into custody by NIA in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, on production orders from the District Sessions Judge, Patiala House Court.
These were identified the accused as Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai of Pulwama (J&K), Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather of Anantnag (J&K), Dr Shaheen Saeed of Lucknow (UP), and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay of Shopian (J&K).
“They had all played a key role in the terror attack that killed several innocent persons and left many others injured, as per NIA investigations,” the investigating agency said.
NIA said it had earlier arrested two other accused – “Amir Rashid Ali, in whose name the car used in the blast was registered, and Jasir Bilal Wani @ Danish, who had provided technical aid to the terrorist involved in the deadly attack”.
“Their interrogation is continuing as part of NIA’s efforts to unravel the complete terror conspiracy in the case RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI. The anti-terror agency, which was handed over the investigation by the Union Home Ministry, Government of India, soon after the attack, is working closely with various state police forces to track and arrest every member of the terrorist module involved in the carnage,” an official statement from the agency read.
NIA gets 10-day custody of 4 accused
In another success, the agency also got a 10-day remand of the four accused, giving it an opportunity to interrogate them. Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna sent the four accused to 10 days of NIA custody. The agency had sought their custody for 15 days but the court granted it only 10 days.
The incident had occurred around 7 pm on November 10 in a moving Hyundai i20 car driven by one alleged suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi. The NIA took over the case the next day and launched a massive search operation. As per the anti-terror agency, Amir had come to Delhi to facilitate the purchase of the car. It was this vehicle which was used to carry Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to trigger the blast.
NIA has forensically established the identity of the deceased driver of the vehicle-borne IED as Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district and Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University at Faridabad. Other agencies like the ED have also begun a probe into the financials of the university, which is at the centre of the probe net.
