The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah on Saturday criticised AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal as being the most blatant liar he ever met in his political career. He lashed at Kejriwal saying that he had broken all promises and told false stories to the people.

Shah highlighted the fact that the way BJP has managed its politics, which is way different from Kejriwal’s saying, “From 2014, under Narendra Modi ji, we have created a politics of performance, where each promise made before every election was fulfilled. We have actively gone out to ask for suggestions and our manifesto does reflect trust and commitment to such goals.” Here, Shah has said that Kejriwal’s government consistently makes promises, which are often not fulfilled. “In my political life, I have never seen anyone who lies so clearly,” Shah remarked.

Amit Shah took particular aim at Kejriwal’s broken promises, including his failure to honor a pledge not to take a government bungalow, highlighting the construction of a lavish 50,000-square-foot building costing over Rs 51 crores, which he referred to as a “Sheesh Mahal.” He also criticized Kejriwal for allowing liquor shops to open near schools, temples, and gurudwaras, and accused him of being involved in multiple corruption scandals. “The liquor scam, committed by Delhi’s former education minister, is one example. Kejriwal had also promised to clean the Yamuna River in seven years, making it as clean as the Thames in London. The people of Delhi are still waiting for that famous dip in the Yamuna,” Shah said.

Shah also pointed out Kejriwal’s failure to deliver on the promise of providing clean water to Delhi’s residents and questioned his claim of running a corruption-free government. He reminded the public of the several corruption cases in which Kejriwal and his ministers have been involved. “Bail doesn’t clear you of these accusations,” he said.

Further attacking Kejriwal, Shah criticized the Delhi Chief Minister for not fulfilling his promise to appoint a Dalit Deputy Chief Minister. He went on to highlight what he described as an unprecedented level of corruption under Kejriwal’s rule, citing multiple scandals, including the Rs 28,400 crore scam in the Delhi Jal Board, a Rs 5,400 crore scam in ration distribution, and other fraudulent activities involving school classrooms and CCTV installations.

In comparison, Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the central government’s contributions to Delhi’s infrastructure. “Under Modi’s government, Rs 41,000 crores were allocated for road constructions, Rs 15,000 crores for railways, and Rs 21,000 crores for the airport. Without the central government’s efforts, Delhi would not be a livable city,” he remarked.

The BJP and AAP have different work cultures, Shah said. “The BJP does what it says. We remain committed to our promises, especially those aimed at the welfare of the poor. I assure the people of Delhi that not a single scheme for the poor will be stopped.” He asked Kejriwal to give up his “false politics,” stating that such behavior is unbecoming of a leader.

Delhi assembly elections will take place on February 5 and the results are to be counted on February 8. Shah’s remarks, meanwhile, are in time to shape the political discourse in the city. A total of 699 candidates will try to win one out of the 70 Delhi Assembly seats.
