Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated CP Radhakrishnan, whom the NDA nominated as its VP candidate, at the Parliamentary meeting, which is taking place at the Parliament Library Building. He also explained why the government has decided to keep the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, noting that it was signed without Parliament’s approval.
Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Ministers Jitendra Singh, Kiren Rijiju, Arjun Ram Meghwal, L Murgann, BJP MPs Sambit Patra, Subhash Barala, among others, are present in the meeting.
PM Modi is addressing both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs. The meeting would also focus on the alliance’s legislative agendas.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also expressed hope that all political parties will extend support to the NDA’s VP pick. NDA is reportedly seeking an unopposed election, with the BJP reaching out to the opposition for consensus.
“Today, NDA Vice-Presidential candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan arrived in Delhi and we had an introductory meeting with NDA floor leaders…We feel very proud that a person like CP Radhakrishnan has been named as the NDA Vice-Presidential candidate. All the leaders of the NDA alliance thanked PM Modi…We are hopeful that all the parties will extend support to him,” Rijiju told reporters here.
The meeting follows the NDA meeting at Union Minister Prahlad Joshi’s house, NDA formally announced its VP candidate. The minister took to social media to share pictures of the meeting attended by several leaders, including Cabinet Minister Chirag Paswan, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.

As per a report by news agency ANI, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be Radhakrishnan’s campaign manager, while Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will serve as his election agent.
The NDA Vice Presidential candidate, CP Radhakrishnan, will file nomination on August 20 at 11 am for the September 9 election. The election was necessitated after VP Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on the first day of the Monsoon session.
The election of the Vice President is governed by the provisions under Articles 64 to 68 of the Constitution. The Election Commission notifies the VP polls by the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952.
As per Article 66(1) of the Constitution of India, the election of the Vice President shall be held by the system of proportional representation by means of single transferable vote, and the voting at such election shall be by secret ballot.
The BJP has reportedly instructed all its MPs to be present in Delhi between September 6 and 9 for a workshop at the BJP headquarters.
