BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Wednesday accused the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of accepting support from ex-militants for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Madhav alleged that these parties aim to return the Union territory to its “trouble-filled days.”
The Jammu and Kashmir elections will take place in three phases and counting of votes will be on October 4.
Madhav, who is BJP’s party in-charge in Jammu and Kashmir, criticised the Abdullah and Mufti families, stating they need to be replaced.
“I have information that ex-militants are openly campaigning for NC and PDP candidates. The public must defeat these parties and support new leadership focused on peace and progress,” Madhav told reporters while accompanying BJP candidate Aijaz Hussain during nomination filings in Lal Chowk.
He also criticised the manifestos of the NC and PDP, which promise to restore Article 370 and statehood, resolve the Kashmir issue, and engage in talks with Pakistan. Madhav argued that these proposals would lead the Jammu and Kashmir back to its troubled past.
The BJP leader also expressed confidence that new leaders will emerge in Kashmir Valley and that the BJP will be seen as a representative of peace and development in the Jammu region.
Madhav also addressed the influx of younger candidates in the elections, saying it reflects a desire for new leadership. “A significant number of youth are stepping forward and should be supported. This state was controlled by two families; it’s time for them to go,” he said, referring to NC President Farooq Abdullah and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti.
When asked about potential alliances in the event of a fractured mandate, Madhav stated that the BJP aims to be the single largest party but will consider alliances if necessary.
He also said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address an election rally in Jammu on September 6, with further visits expected from the Prime Minister and other leaders.
