A monorail train came to a halt near Mysore Colony station on Tuesday evening after a power supply issue. According to municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, there were around 200 passengers inside the train. Video of the rescue operation has surfaced on the internet showing stranded passengers being taken out as heavy rain lashes the city.

The incident occurred around 6.15 pm, following which monorail services between Chembur and Bhakti Park were suspended. Passengers onboard the stalled train contacted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s emergency helpline (1916), after which the Mumbai Fire Brigade was rushed to the spot with three snorkel vehicles to assist in relief operations.

The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), which operates the monorail, confirmed the disruption and said maintenance teams were deployed immediately. “One Monorail train near Mysore Colony station has experienced a minor power supply issue. Our operations and maintenance teams are on-site and working to resolve it quickly. Services between Wadala and Chembur are running smoothly on a single line,” the agency said in a statement on X.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that all the passengers inside a monorail train will be rescued safely and an inquiry will be conducted into the incident.

Taking to X, the CM posted, “Due to some technical reason, a Monorail is stuck between Chembur and Bhakti Park. MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority), the fire brigade, and the municipal corporation, all agencies have reached the spot. The highest priority is being given to the safety of all passengers.”.

“I request everyone to remain patient. I am in contact with the MMRDA Commissioner, the Municipal Commissioner, the police, and all relevant agencies. An inquiry will also be conducted into why this incident occurred,” he added.
