Madhya Pradesh Elections 2023: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Friday demanded strict action against Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra for his recent statement implying celebrations in Pakistan if any party other than the BJP wins the ongoing assembly election in the state.

As voting for the 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly is underway, Mishra stated on Friday morning that if any party other than the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the elections, there would be celebrations in Pakistan. He mentioned that those who want to serve the nation should cast their vote for BJP.

“It is a provocative statement. Strict action should be taken against him. The Election Commission of India (ECI) should give notice to him immediately,” remarked Digvijaya Singh, as PTI reported.

Singh said Mishra has a habit of making such statements by highlighting a pending election-related case in the court. He asserted that Mishra, based on his behaviour, should not have the right to contest polls.

‘Bhupesh Baghel takes on Narottam Mishra’s Pakistan remark’

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel also reacted to Mishra’s Pakistan remark saying, “They (Narottam Mishra and BJP) know to talk only in such kind of a language. They try to polarise by such statements, however, their plan will not work this time,”

In a previous interaction with reporters in Datia, Mishra stated,”If any other party wins, then the celebrations will be held in Pakistan. Therefore, it is necessary to press the button of lotus (BJP’s election symbol), considering the national interest as supreme. This will strengthen the army on the borders.”

Mishra, contesting from the Datia assembly constituency, further added that voting for the BJP symbol would bring various benefits, including free ration, housing, sanitation facilities, COVID-19 vaccines, national peace, security, and the Vande Bharat train initiative.

Voting for Madhya Pradesh’s 230 assembly seats began at 7 AM and will continue till 6 PM. In certain areas with Naxal dominance, including Baihar, Lanji, and Parswara assembly seats of Balaghat district, as well as some booths in Mandla and Dindori districts, polling concluded by 3 PM.

According to EC data, 60.52 per cent turnout was recorded in the state as of 3 PM.. Polling is being conducted across all 230 constituencies, including 47 reserved for ST and 35 for the SC.
