In another horrific case, Ludhiana police discovered a man’s decomposed body stuffed inside a blue plastic drum. According to media reports, the body was covered in a plastic sack, and the victim’s neck and legs were tightly tied with a rope. The search was conducted after residents reported a persistent foul smell in the area, leading to police intervention. The case echoes with the chilling Meerut murder case.
SHO Gangandeep Kaur, who is heading the probe, said the deceased seems to be a migrant worker, based on facial features. However, the body was too decomposed to identify the injuries. “There are no visible external injury marks for now. The body has been sent for the post-mortem, which will clarify the reason of the death,” she told India Today TV.
The dead body was discovered in a drum that looks to be brand new, as the investigators. They believe that the murder may have been planned. Police are investigating whether the drum was specially bought for the purpose of throwing the body.
Drum manufacturers and CCTV footage under probe
With an aim to find the origin of the drum, the police have made a list of 42 drum manufacturing units that are operational in Ludhiana. Company owners have been questioned by the police regarding recent sales of similar containers. SHO Kaur pointed out that several migrant labourers staying near the crime scene have been questioned as part of routine checks.
Police are also actively securitizing CCTV footage with a five-kilometre radius, including major locations like bus depots, railway stations, and industrial corridors. Several suspicious vehicle registrations are being examined in an effort to identify those who may have dumped the drum.
As per the report, the identity of the deceased has not been known yet. Police are also not dismissing the chances of debt disputes, association with organised crime, or personal enmity. Investigators are waiting for the post-mortem report, which is likely to provide more details in this mysterious case.
