Mohammad Shami, the star pacer for the Indian Cricket team’s legal battle with his ex-wife, has taken a southward turn. The Calcutta High Court has directed cricketer Shami to pay a monthly alimony of Rs 4 lakh to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan.
The order, passed by Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, mandates that Rs 1.5 lakh be allocated for Jahan’s maintenance, while Rs 2.5 lakh is to be provided for the care and upbringing of their minor daughter.
Shami’s ongoing legal battle
However, Jahan’s legal counsel argued for a higher alimony amount, given Shami’s financial circumstances. This came after a judgment in 2018 ordered by the Alipore Court in Kolkata, which directed Shami to pay Jahan Rs 1.3 lakh per month for herself and her daughter’s expenses. At the time, Jahan had sought Rs 10 lakh a month, which entailed Rs 7 lakh for herself and the remaining for her daughter.
Upon further inquiry, it was revealed that Shami’s annual income was estimated at Rs 7.19 crore in 2021, amounting to nearly Rs 60 lakh a month.
Shami vs Jahan: Judgement
Taking these details into account, the High Court ordered the Rs 4 lakh amount to be “just, fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability of both petitioners.” Shami was also given the leverage to voluntarily contribute additional amounts for his daughter’s educational or personal needs in the future.
Giving this, the Calcutta HC questioned the previous order and revised the existing terms of the alimony agreement.
Mohammad Shami’s marriage
Mohammad Shami, a significant player for the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014, married former cheerleader of the team, Hasin Jahan. In 2015, they welcomed their daughter into the world.
Their marriage, however, took a bitter turn in 2018. His now ex-wife accused him of match fixing, adultery, domestic violence and dowry harassment. While the truth remains unclear, Shami posted a picture with his daughter with an emotional caption that read , “Time stood still when I saw her again after a long time. Love you more than words can say, Bebo.”
The gesture was quickly dismissed by Jahan is media interviews later. Currently, while Shami skipped out on the India vs England Test Series, he is recovering from an injury. He was last seen in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) which ended in June 2025.
