Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Boeing India Engineering and Technology Centre campus in Karnataka’s Bengaluru on Friday. The facility, the company’s largest outside the United States, is spread across an area of 43 acres and has been built at an investment of Rs 1,600 crore.
Inaugurating the BIETC campus, PM Modi said that the facility will serve as an innovation hub and drive advancements in aviation. He further said that the campus will strengthen the identity of Bengaluru.
In his speech, the Prime Minister made a strong pitch for India as an ideal investment destination, stating that India has an immense talent pool and a stable government. “There is Make In India…” At this point, the crowd started raising slogans of “Modi, Modi” in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah.
After a brief pause, PM Modi looked up to Siddaramaiah and said: “Mukhya Mantri ji, aisa hota rehta hai (Mr Chief Minister, this keeps happening).” The Prime Minister’s remark was met with a loud cheer from the crowd, leaving Siddaramaiah visibly uncomfortable.
At the launch event today, PM Modi also launched the Boeing Sukanya programme which aims to support the entry of more girl children into the aviation sector in India. The programme aims to provide women from ac ross India opportunities to learn critical skills in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.
Speaking at the event, Siddaramaiah said that the inauguration of the facility has added another feather to Karnataka’s cap and lauded the state’s standing at the forefront of technological advancements in India.
