The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ripped into Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav after videos of him celebrating Halloween with his family members gained traction on social media.
The official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the BJP Kisan Morcha (BJPKM) shared two videos of Lalu Yadav. One of them shows him mocking Kumbh, while another shows him celebrating the spooky festival with family.
‘Called Kumbh useless,’ BJP slams RJD supremo
“Don’t forget, people of Bihar, this is the same Lalu Yadav who called the grand Kumbh of faith and spirituality useless and is celebrating the British festival Halloween,” read the caption posted along with the videos.
BJPKM further added, “Whoever strikes at faith, the people of Bihar will not vote for him.”
भूलना मत बिहार वासियों, यही लालू यादव है, जिसने आस्था और आध्यात्म के महाकुंभ को फालतू बताया था और अंग्रेजों का त्योहार Halloween मना रहा है।

What do the videos show?
“Kumbh ka kya koi matlab hai. Faltu hai kumbh [Kumbh — what’s the point of it? Kumbh is useless],” he told an ANI reporter in February this year. At the time, he responded to questions related to devotees travelling to Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj.
In the other video, he can be seen celebrating Halloween with his grandchildren in the presence of other family members.
The controversy began after Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, shared videos of him celebrating Halloween with children dressed as the Grim Reaper and other spooky characters. “Happy Halloween to everyone,” she captioned the post.
The backlash comes as Bihar is set to go to the polls this month in two phases, with the first phase on November 6 and the second on November 11. The result will be announced on November 14.
Halloween, celebrated on October 31, traces its roots to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of harvest and the start of winter. It was believed to be a time when the boundary between the living and the dead blurred.
Today, the festival is known for costumes, pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, and spooky decorations. While it began in the West, Halloween has become increasingly popular across the world.
