As the country is witnessing massive protests following the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata, a 14-year-old girl, on her way home from tuition, was allegedly gang-raped by three men in the Nagaon district of Assam.
The incident took place when the girl was returning home from her tuition on Thursday evening.
Locals found the girl in a semi-conscious state by the side of a road and immediately admitted her to a hospital, ANI reported.
Swapnaneel Deka, Superintendent of Police of Nagaon district told ANI, “Police have picked up two persons for interrogation in connection with the incident.”
The incident has sparked massive protests in the area, with locals demanding stern action against the perpetrators of the crime and justice for the victim. Several organisations have also called for a local bandh in the Dhing area.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the horrific incident at Dhing, involving a minor, “is a crime against humanity and has struck our collective conscience.”

This incident comes amid nationwide outrage over the murder and rape of a female doctor at the RG Kar Medical Hospital on August 9 in West Bengal’s Kolkata.
