Sadhna Bhonsle, a 16-year-old aspiring medical student from Maharashtra, was struck to death by her father in a heated row over her low score in a NEET mock test. Bhonsle, a class 12 student, was preparing for the national undergraduate medical exam set to take place in May 2026.

Bhonsle, who achieved a 92% score in her Class 10 Board exams, was beaten to death by her father at Nelkaranji village on Sunday. According to reports, the father hit his daughter on the head multiple times with the wooden handle of a stone grinder, resulting in the student’s death. The teen’s mother and brother were present at the spot during the assault.

The victim’s mother later filed a complaint with the police on June 22, saying that her husband had thrashed their daughter because of low marks in a mock test. Based on the mother’s complaint, the father has been arrested by the police and remains in their custody till June 24.

“The teen was rushed to a hospital in Sangli, where she died during treatment. The post-mortem report revealed that she died of multiple injuries,” senior inspector Vinay Bahir said.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test UG 2026 is expected to be held in May 2026. The exam will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) via pen and paper mode. Based on previous years’ trends, around 2.5 million students are expected to register for the exam, competing for a total of 1,18,190 MBBS seats available across 780 medical colleges in India.
