Mahim Election Result 2024 Live: What happened after 2019 elections?
In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, securing 105 out of the 288 seats. The undivided Shiv Sena won 56 seats, while the Congress and NCP garnered 44 and 54 seats, respectively. Despite having a clear majority, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance was unable to form the government due to a disagreement over the Chief Minister's post, leading to a split in the alliance.
This situation paved the way for the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. However, the Uddhav Thackeray-led government collapsed in June 2022 after a rebellion led by Eknath Shinde against the Shiv Sena, resulting in an unprecedented split within the party. In July 2023, Ajit Pawar broke away from his uncle, Sharad Pawar, causing a split in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Ajit Pawar then joined the ruling Mahayuti alliance, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In the 2024 elections, the Mahayuti alliance—comprising the BJP, Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's NCP—is facing off against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes the Congress, NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT).
