The Maharashtra Assembly elections dealt a major blow to the Congress party as several of its senior leaders lost their seats. Despite their years of experience and strong political reputations, these leaders were unable to hold onto constituencies that were once considered their strongholds. The results highlight changing voter preferences and the growing influence of parties like the BJP and SHS in the state.

Congress’ Prithviraj Chavan lost from Karad South 

Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra (2010–2014), lost the race for the Karad South Assembly seat. Chavan, a seasoned politician with a distinguished career spanning the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and Maharashtra Legislative Council, was defeated by BJP’s Dr. Atulbaba Suresh Bhosale, who secured 1,39,505 votes, according to the Election Commission of India.

Congress’ Yashomati Chandrakant Thakur lost from Teosa 

In the Teosa Assembly constituency, BJP’s Rajesh Shriramji Wankhade emerged victorious, defeating INC’s Yashomati Chandrakant Thakur. Wankhade garnered 99,664 votes against Thakur’s 92,047.

Congress’ Balasaheb Thorat lost from Sangamner 

Similarly, in the Sangamner Assembly constituency, SHS candidate Amol Khatal triumphed over Congress stalwart Balasaheb Thorat, polling 1,12,386 votes to Thorat’s 1,01,826.

These results highlight the growing challenges faced by Congress in maintaining its foothold in Maharashtra’s political landscape.
