Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant has urged the makers of the upcoming film ‘Chhaava’ to arrange a screening for experts before its release. He warned that the film would not be allowed to hit theatres without this step. ‘Chhaava’, starring Vicky Kaushal, is a historical drama based on the life and reign of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and is directed by Laxman Utekar.
While appreciating the effort to honor Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy, Samant pointed out that the film includes scenes that have been flagged as objectionable by some, emphasising the need for expert review. Uday Samant urged the producers and director of ‘Chhaava’ to act responsibly, cautioning that the film’s release might be halted if it contains any offensive material.
Objectionable scenes in ‘Chhaava’
Speaking to the media, Uday Samant criticised a scene in the film depicting Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj dancing and called on the director to remove it. He insisted that the film must be screened for historians and scholars, warning that it would not be allowed to release if they raised objections. Earlier, Samant had acknowledged the effort to showcase Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy on the big screen but stressed the importance of maintaining historical accuracy and respecting the Maratha king. He also urged the filmmakers to act responsibly, cautioning that the release could be halted if any offensive material remained.
The Maharashtra minister expressed happiness about a Hindi film being made on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, describing him as a defender of faith and freedom. He highlighted the importance of such efforts in spreading awareness about Chhatrapati’s history globally. However, Samant also noted that many have expressed concern regarding some “objectionable scenes in this film.”
Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant thus said that the film should only be released after being reviewed by experts and historians, stressing that any content disrespecting the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj would be unacceptable.
