Ahead of Maharashtra polls set to take place at later this year, Veteran actor Sayaji Shinde on Friday officially joined the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Friday. The seasoned actor, known for his roles across various Indian language films, was welcomed into the party by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, NCP working president Praful Patel, and state NCP chief Sunil Tatkare.

Ajit Pawar announced that Shinde, who has garnered widespread recognition for his on-screen roles, will serve as the party’s star campaigner for the assembly elections expected to take place next month. “Shinde will be given due respect in the party,” Pawar said.

During the event, 65-year-old Shinde reflected on his transition into politics, noting that he has portrayed politicians in several films throughout his acting career. “I was impressed by Ajit Pawar’s style of functioning,” he remarked, adding that his interactions with Pawar during his work in afforestation motivated his decision. “To work more effectively, I need to be a part of the system,” Shinde added.
