The Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal on Friday announced their alliance for the Lok Sabha elections, with the RLD saying that the other will leave seven seats out of the 80 seats in western Uttar Pradesh.
SP president Akhilesh Yadav and RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary announced the tie-up on social media for the elections later this year.
“Congratulations to everyone on the alliance of RLD and SP. Let us all unite for victory,” Yadav said in a post on X.
Reposting this tweet, Chaudhary said, “Always ready to protect national and constitutional values. We expect all workers of our alliance to move forward together for the development and prosperity of our region.”
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the RLD was also a part of the SP-Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) alliance. While the SP and BSP won 5 and 10 seats respectively, the RLD had lost all the three seats it had contested from – Mathura, Baghpat and Muzaffar Nagar.
Both the parties had contested in the 2022 elections in which the SP had won 111 seats while the RLD secured eight seats.
RLD national general secretary Anupam Mishra on Friday told The Indian Express that the seats given to RLD can’t be revealed now. However, sources told IE could likely be Mathura, Baghpat, Fatehpur Sikri, Bijnor, and some other seats in western UP.
