Seeking Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk‘s immediate release, his wife, Dr Gitanjali J  Angmo, reached out to the Supreme Court on Friday. Despite police arresting him on September 26, she has denied allegations that he was in cahoots with a Pakistani Intelligence Operative.

Countering Wangchuk’s arrest under the National Security Act (NSA) in late September, Angmo filed the petition under Article 32 of the Constitution on October 1.

Earlier this week, Angmo took to her X account to address the issue, while calling for her husband’s release. “I have sent this representation for the immediate release of Shri Sonam Wangchuk to the President of India, Prime Minister of India, Home Minister, Law Minister of India, and the LG of Ladakh, with a cc to DC Leh,” she wrote on the platform, sharing pictures of the written document.

On top of that, she also spoke to ANI on Tuesday in an attempt to clear her husband’s name from the controversial mess. Calling Ladakh Police’s allegations of him being touch with a Pakistani operative “wrong and false,” she said, “We condemn it to the core. A narrative is being formed to frame someone… When the UT government was buying Chinese tables, (Wangchuk) was talking about tackling China not with bullets but with a wallet. How can such a person be anti-national?”

She further insisted that Wangchuk went to a climate change conference in February. It was organised by the United Nations and Pakistani media outlet Dawn. “A conference on glaciers which provide water to all the countries from Bangladesh to Afghanistan… If a person participates in such a conference, will he be an ISI agent? What is the evidence behind it? They are saying a Pakistan entered here, so the MHA should answer,” Gitanjali Angmo fumed at the time.
