Kolkata rape and murder case
The body of the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered inside a seminar hall at the state-run hospital, was discovered on August 9. Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested in connection with the case.
A preliminary autopsy report indicated that the victim was sexually assaulted and murdered. The report noted that she was bleeding from her eyes, mouth, and private parts, and that there were injuries on her left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger, and lips.
The victim’s parents approached the Calcutta High Court, requesting a court-monitored investigation into the case. Additionally, several public interest litigation (PIL) petitions were filed, calling for a CBI probe into the incident.
