A 24-year-old student of South Calcutta Law College was allegedly gangraped by three individuals on campus, including a former student affiliated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The survivor claims the assault was triggered by her refusal to marry the main accused, Monojit Mishra, who is the general secretary of the TMC’s student wing, Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), in South Kolkata, reported India Today.

According to the complaint filed at Kasba Police Station, the survivor had gone to the college around 4 PM on Wednesday for some official work. She was allegedly asked to stay back by Mishra, 31, and later confined inside the college premises. Between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM, she was allegedly gangraped inside the guard room on the ground floor by Mishra and two other students—19-year-old Zaib Ahmed and 20-year-old Pramit Mukherjee alias Pramit Mukhopadhyay.

The woman said Mishra had pressured her to marry him, despite her telling him she was already in a relationship. When she refused, Mishra allegedly threatened to harm her boyfriend and falsely implicate her parents. “They tried to force me with the intention of having sex. I denied and fought back… I cried and asked him to let me go,” the survivor stated in her complaint.

She further alleged that even after begging for mercy and touching the accused’s feet, the group dragged her into the guard room, locked the main gate, and carried out the assault. She also claimed that the college guard witnessed the situation but did not intervene.

The accused allegedly recorded the incident and used the footage to blackmail her. “They threatened to show these videos to everyone if I did not cooperate,” the survivor said. She was eventually allowed to leave under threats of further violence, including an attempt to strike her with a hockey stick.

Police have since arrested all three accused. Mishra, a former student, remains politically active with the TMCP, while the other two are current students at the college.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police are examining the CCTV footage and mobile phone records as part of the case.
