Kolhapur Local Body Election Results 2025 LIVE: The Maharashtra local body elections were held in two phases on December 2 and December 20. Counting of votes is taking place today, December 21, beginning at 10 am, with results to be declared as and when counting is completed for each municipal council and nagar panchayat.

The first phase saw voters cast their ballots for 264 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. The second phase involved elections to 24 municipal councils and nagar panchayats, along with 154 wards across 76 other local governing bodies. Overall, votes are being counted for 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats.

The election campaign saw something unusual with the ruling Mahayuti alliance seeing its major parties – BJP, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and the Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena – taking on each other in several constituencies.
The BJP and Shiv Sena have also fielded candidates in districts such as Sindhudurg, Satara, Dharashiv, Palghar and Thane. Not just this, the rival NCP factions led by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar came together in Kolhapur, while in some areas, Congress factions aligned with the BJP.
According to data provided by the Election Commission, the electoral rolls for these polls include a total of 1,07,03,576 registered voters. Of these, 53.79 lakh are men, 53.22 lakh women, and 775 transgender voters.
According to the Maharashtra State Election Commission, voters will head to the polls on January 15 to elect representatives in 29 Municipal Corporations, including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), while results will be announced the next day.

"I had already predicted that out of all the municipal council chairpersons elected, 75% would be from the Mahayuti, and the people have delivered exactly that verdict. It has also become clear that BJP is the number one party. So far, around 129 municipal council chairpersons have been elected from the BJP. Together, all three alliance parties account for 75% of the city council chairpersons," he said.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said the "overwhelming success" of the BJP in the Maharashtra local body polls was a "victory of the (party) workers". He also hailed BJP state chief Ravindra Chavan and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
"Yours, ours, BJP belongs to everyone and this is a victory of the workers...Thank you to the people who supported the BJP by maintaining faith in its development-oriented working style," Gadkari wrote on X.

Maharashtra BJP leader Keshav Upadhye claimed on Sunday that the BJP had taken an early lead in most areas. The state election commission is yet to announce the official results of the polls to the posts of president and members in 286 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in Maharashtra.
He said the BJP was ahead in 19 out of 60 seats in western Maharashtra, while the Shiv Sena was ahead in 14 and the NCP in 12. The Congress was leading in three seats, the Sena (UBT) in one, the Pawar-led NCP faction in four, and others in seven seats.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde claimed the Mahayuti had crossed the 200-mark in polls to 286 local bodies. He reiterated that “BJP had scored a century” while Shiv Sena notched a “half century” and emerged as the second-largest party in the state.
“Results show the public’s preference for development over politics. The grand victory of the Mahayuti in the elections is an indication that the Mahayuti will repeat the same in the forthcoming municipal corporation elections,” he said at a press conference.
“Konkan is the bastion of the Shiv Sena. It is not confined to Mumbai and Thane but has reached each and every household in the state. Even in areas where the party faced losses, the collective victory of the Mahayuti remained the priority,” he added.
