Kerala municipality election phase 2 voting 2025 date: More than 12,000 local body wards in seven northern districts of Kerala will go to polls on Thursday as part of Phase II of the 2025 local body elections.
The State Election Commission (SEC) said that arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair voting in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Elections will be held for 12,391 wards across 604 local bodies, including three corporations. In Kannur, 14 wards and in Kasaragod, 2 wards have candidates who were elected unopposed.

Voting will start at 7 am and end at 6 pm on Thursday. A mock poll to check the electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be conducted one hour before polling begins.
The election in Payimbadam ward of Moothedam panchayat in Malappuram has been postponed following the death of UDF candidate Vattath Haseena.
Kerala local body election 2025 phase 2: Candidate details and voter dynamics
Around 1.53 crore voters can cast their vote in this phase, including 80.90 lakh women, 72.46 lakh men, and 161 transgender voters. There are also 3,293 overseas voters on the list.
Phase II has 38,994 candidates. Among them, 28,274 are contesting for grama panchayats, 3,742 for block panchayats, 681 for district panchayats, 5,546 for municipalities, and 751 for the three corporations – Kozhikode, Kannur, and Thrissur.
The SEC has set up 18,274 polling stations for these elections. Polling materials will start being distributed from 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
Out of these, 2,055 polling stations are marked as ‘sensitive,’ with Kannur having the most at 1,025. These stations will have live webcasting and videography for security.
Vote counting will begin at 8 a.m. on December 13 at multiple centres across Kerala. The SEC’s ‘TREND’ software will provide updates on results.
In Phase I, held on Tuesday, voters in the seven southern districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Ernakulam – had already cast their votes.
