Karnataka excise minister H Y Meti on Wednesday submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah following being involved in an alleged sex tape. It was earlier reported that a CD related to an incident had surfaced which showed Meti in a compromising position with a woman. Meti had earlier constantly denied the existence of any CD of his alleged sex tape with the woman who had approached him asking for a favour. Meti’s resignation came immediately after a few local TV channels aired the footage of the alleged sex tape.

The controversial issue had been in the news since Sunday, when according to the Hindu, an RTI activist Rajasekhar had accused the Minister of demanding a sexual favour from the woman for a transfer. However, there were no actual reports as to who the woman was. The ruling Congress Party had reacted to the matter and said that appropriate actions would be taken only if the charges against Meti were proven and concrete evidence was found in the form of a CD. Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Janata Party had accused the government of shielding the excise minister.

The matter had come as a major embarrassment for the Congress party and the Karnataka government. This incident had come into the light within a month after Tanvir Sait, Minister of Primary and Higher Education Minister was allegedly caught watching objectionable pictures of women on his mobile phone during the celebration of Tipu Jayanti. Earlier in 2012, two BJP MLAs had been caught watching porn on their cell phones in the parliament, which makes this the second such scandal to surface in the state of Karnataka.
