A woman lost her life and her daughter was critically injured after their scooter was hit by a speeding car driven by a minor in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place on Friday.

According to police reports, the car was being driven by a 17-year-old boy who was attempting stunts on a busy road. The horrific collision was captured by a security camera and the footage has since gone viral on social media. The video shows the mother and daughter riding their scooter when the car, having lost control, violently rams into them.

The impact was so severe that both victims were thrown into the air in different directions. Passersby immediately rushed them to the hospital. Tragically, the woman succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while her daughter, who sustained multiple fractures, is still receiving medical care.

The 17-year-old driver has been taken into custody as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.

The incident follows months after a 17-year-old boy in Pune allegedly killed two IT professionals while driving his Porsche car. The teen was granted bail less than a day after his arrest, leading to national outrage and calls for a deeper investigation. The incident took place on 19 May, 2024. 

In October 2023, a 15-year-old boy was detained by the Kanpur Police and sent to a juvenile home for mowing down and killing two people with his father’s car. Months later, the same boy recently injured four more people in the city’s Barra area.

The 15-year-old, is the son of a prominent doctor in Kanpur. Reports indicated that a probe was initiated against a section of the local police for their alleged inaction in the case.
