Tamil Nadu Chief Minister EK Palaniswami has ordered a judicial probe into the death of former TN CM and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa. The probe will be headed by a retired High Court judge. The Tamil Nadu CM has also said that the late Chief Minister’s residence will be converted into a memorial according to CNN-Nerws18. The Madras High Court had late last month asked the Tamil Nadu government for its stand on a plea of exhuming the body of the late CM from the Marina beach and burying it somewhere other than the coastal area, the Indian Express reports. The High Court had asked the state government for its opinion on setting up the memorial on Marina beach and sought a response from the state government by August 18.

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Paneerselvam, known to be a Jayalalithaa loyalist, had asked the EPS faction of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) to set up a memorial for the late leader and also wanted a judicial probe to be ordered into Jaya’s death as a precondition for a merger between the two factions of the party, according to News18 report.

Palaniswami has also said that Jayalalithaa’s Veda Nilayam bungalow in Poes Garden will be converted into a memorial and will be thrown open to the public soon, as per the news18 report. The Panneerselvam faction has also asked for the ouster of Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dinakaran as a condition for the merger of the party, as per IE.
