An encounter between security forces and terrorists is currently underway along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the Indian Army reported on Sunday. The operation was initiated after receiving intelligence about a potential infiltration attempt in the Uri sector.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps shared details of the ongoing joint anti-infiltration mission in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Based on intelligence inputs regarding a likely infiltration bid, a joint anti-infiltration operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police along the LoC in the general area of Uri, Baramulla. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, leading to the terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Vigilant troops responded with effective fire. The operation is still in progress,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police made significant arrests in the Poonch district, detaining two terrorists on Saturday. According to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anand Jain, the arrests led to the resolution of several grenade attack cases in the region.
Speaking to ANI, Jain highlighted the significance of the arrests, stating, “We have achieved a breakthrough with the arrest of two terrorists involved in grenade attacks, anti-national activities, and attempting to disrupt communal harmony. They had thrown grenades at Gurudwaras, temples, hospitals, and army bases.”
Jain emphasised that these terrorists were attempting to disturb peace and harmony in the region. Additionally, security forces apprehended a terror-linked suspect in the Dundak area of Surankote Sector, Poonch, on Friday. Four grenades were recovered from the individual, marking another significant breakthrough in solving recent terror-related incidents in the district.
The ongoing crackdown on terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir follows a string of violent incidents, including the killing of Ashok Chauhan, a migrant labourer from Bihar, who was found dead with bullet injuries in the Shopian district on Friday. The security situation remains tense as authorities continue their efforts to curb terrorist activities in the region.
