Two Army personnel were killed and three others were injured in a fierce gunfight with terrorists in the Ahlan Gagarmandu forest of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday (August 10).

The clash occurred during a cordon and search operation in the Kokernag area, initiated after receiving intelligence about the terrorists’ presence. As the search parties entered the forest, the terrorists opened fire, sparking an intense battle.

Five Army personnel were injured in the encounter and were rushed to a hospital, where two succumbed to their injuries. Reinforcements have been deployed to the area, and the operation to locate and neutralize the terrorists is ongoing, according to officials.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, said, “Based on specific intelligence input, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army, @JmuKmrPolice & @crpf_srinagar today in general area Kokernag, Anantnag. Contact was established and a firefight ensued.”

“Two personnel have been injured and evacuated from the area,” it said.
