The higher reaches of Kashmir on Sunday (October 6) were blanketed in fresh snowfall, particularly in popular tourist spots like Gulmarg and Razdan Pass in Gurez. This weather change has led to a significant drop in temperatures across the region, accompanied by rains in the Valley’s plains.
Gulmarg, a ski resort in Baramulla, experienced light snowfall overnight. The snowfall heralds the onset of colder days in Kashmir, as temperatures have sharply declined in both hilly and plain areas.
In Gurez, which is situated near the Line of Control (LoC), Razdan Pass also received its first snowfall of the season.
No specific warnings have been issued for the state until October 10, and reports indicate that the region is likely to experience dry weather for the next ten days.
The temperature drop was considerable, with Srinagar recording a low of 8 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg plummeted to a chilly minus 1 degree Celsius overnight. The dip in temperatures is expected to persist in the coming days, signaling the arrival of colder weather.
