To kick off the election campaign for Congress, Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday and address two mega rallies. The Congress scion is expected to visit the Dooru Assembly constituency from where the Congress has fielded Ghulam Ahmad Mir.
The AICC general secretary, Mir, said it was the desire of the candidates of the alliance to have Gandhi campaign in J&K, PTI reported. “Rahulji will visit J&K on September 4 and will address election campaign rallies in Kashmir as well as Jammu for the alliance candidates,” he added.

Mir, who is contesting the assembly elections from Dooru in the south Kashmir district, said Gandhi will address an election rally at the Dooru stadium. He said Gandhi would address another rally likely in the Sangaldan area of Jammu, PTI reported.
The AICC general secretary further added that the Congress has lined up over 40 star campaigners, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Rahul Gandhi’s campaign will set the stage for other influential Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, to enter the campaign mode with multiple rallies. Notably, this will mark Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s first-ever campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, adding significant momentum to the party’s efforts.

The Congress is contesting the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls in alliance with the National Conference. Both parties have finalised a seat-sharing formula, with the National Conference and Congress contesting on 51 and 32 seats, respectively.
Jammu and Kashmir, which has 90 Assembly seats, will vote in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1. Results will be declared on October 8. Earlier, the vote counting was scheduled for October 4 but later it was pushed to October 8.
