Maharashtra police on Saturday busted a drug manufacturing syndicate operating in Telangana, with the official seizing MD (mephedrone) drugs of Rs 12,000 crore, as reported by NDTV. According to the police officials, about 35,000 litres of chemicals used in making drugs were found during raids at the chemical factory in Telangana’s Cheramalli area.
The raid was conducted by Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) police, who arrested 12 persons, including a Bangladeshi woman, according to a senior official. The investigation has further revealed that the factory was running for several years and was supplying to Mumbai through local criminals and agents.
Investigation reveals
MBVV police commissioner Niket Kaushik told PTI that Mephedrone weighing 5.968 kilograms, 27 mobile phones, three four-wheelers, four electronic scales, chemicals and other materials used in the production of the contraband have been seized along with Rs 23.97 lakh cash.
According to officials, police believe hundreds of kilograms of mephedrone have been manufactured and distributed. Acting on a tip-off, the Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar police and the crime branch collaborated on a month-long surveillance operation, which led to raids at over 60 locations.
Police officials have revealed that the main suspect in the case is an IT expert who used his knowledge of chemicals to orchestrate the crime. Due to the involvement of a foreign national, the investigation has now expanded to include an international scope.
Delhi-NCR drug cartel busted
In a separate development, police arrested six men accused of smuggling high-quality cannabis from Bangkok to India on Saturday. The narcotics were distributed in the Delhi-NCR region using a network of carriers.
According to an official statement, the profits were funnelled to ringleaders operating from Dubai and Thailand. Law enforcement seized approximately 5.7 kg of cannabis, along with three vehicles and two passports in the raid.
