The Udaipur administration suspended internet services for 24 hours on Friday following violent unrest sparked by the stabbing of a class 10 student by his classmate at a government school. The incident occurred early in the day in which the victim sustained a deep knife wound to his thigh. He was rushed to the hospital, where his condition is now stable.

Udaipur district collector Arvind Poswal confirmed the arrest of both the attacker and his father. He urged the public to ignore rumors and false information, emphasizing that the situation was under control. “The city is peaceful now,” Poswal stated in a video message, adding that additional police have been deployed to maintain order.

It was not immediately known what led to the stabbing at the government school located at Bhattiyani Chohatta.

Members of some Hindu outfits gathered at Madhuban in the city to protest over the stabbing, police said, adding that a mob pelted stones and also set three or four cars on fire.

Despite the authorities’ efforts to calm the situation, tensions escalated on Friday evening, leading to stone-pelting and the torching of several vehicles. Amid the unrest, markets in areas like Bapu Bazar, Hathipole, and Chetak Circle were shut down as a precaution.

Police reported that a mob also vandalized a shopping mall, breaking glass doors in the process. Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal confirmed the deployment of additional forces and reassured that the accused had been detained.
