An Indian Army soldier has alleged that he was stripped, beaten and his turban removed at a police station in Chandigarh in November 2023, following which he has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court, reports The Indian Express.
The High Court will hear the matter on February 21. The court had ordered on February 1 that the CCTV footage from the Sector 11 police station on the day of the incident which took place on November 12 last year should be preserved.
The Naik Singh’s Commanding Officer, Colonel Mrinal Mehta of 10 Corps Signal Regiment, had written to Chandigarh DGP in January this year over the incident seeking action against the “vagabond” police officers as it was an insult to the Indian Army.
Naik Arvinder Singh is allegedly involved in a marital dispute with his wife, who is a constable in Chandigarh Police and is posted in the same police station.
He alleged that he went to meet his wife and infant son on November 11 last year, when he was first summoned by Punjab Police Sub Inspector Paramjit Singh of Mullanpur Police Station, who allegedly threatened him. He was later asked to go to Sector 11 Police Station in Chandigarh, where the Army soldier alleged that he was beaten up by some individuals, his clothes were removed, turban tossed and a video was made of him.
The petition said that a complaint by him to the SSP Chandigarh in connection with the incident on November 16 last year went unanswered, following which he moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
