India Weather Update: After the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted the monsoon stalls, a spell of heat covered Northern India. Dusty winds and heatwave warnings were issued across parts of Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. For Delhi, however, due to the extreme heat on Monday, June 9 became the hottest day of the season as temperatures crossed 43°C which “felt like” 49°C.

The previous season high was reported at 42.3°C, nealy 1°C higher than May 16 in 2024. A red-alert has been issued by the IMD in Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh in Rajasthan, warning of an heatwave like conditions. Sri Gangangar reported 47.3°C on June 9 followed by record high temperatures in Jhansi and Agra.
Delhi weather forecast
Reporting a record high from Ayanagar, Delhi’s maximum temperatures surged beyond 45°C. Currently under an IMD orange alert, no relief is expected before June 11. IMD predicts a “partly cloudy, very light rain” for days following June 12. Mercury will remain fixated beyond 40°C after experiencing signs of monsoon in May 2025. However, June brought with it gusty winds, high temperatures and excessive heat warnings.
South India battles heavy rainfall, waterlogging issues
As a ten-day early monsoon set in Kerala, the state faced largescale waterlogging and damage to infrastructure. Record rainfall and gusty winds featured the coastal states gradually progessing towards the north-east. While the monsoons proved fatal for over 40 lives in the north-eastern states, landslides affected more than 3000 houses. Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms were predicted in Tamil Nadu with northern regions of Andhra Pradesh have been placed under orange alert by the IMD.
India experiences a typical May as monsoon stalls lift soon bringing much needed relief for heatwave in the North. IMD advises residents to stay indoors, hydrated and wear lightweight closes to beat the heat.
