Continuing the spell of peak winters, severe cold days and fog conditions are likely to prevail in some/many parts of North India during the next 4-5 days, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) latest weather bulletin mentioned.
Cold-day to severe cold-day conditions are likely to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh on January 15 and 16.
Meanwhile, Delhi on Sunday recorded the coldest night of this winter for a second day in a row with the minimum temperature dipping to 3 degrees Celsius in Aya Nagar station.
Earlier, IMD issued an orange alert given cold and dense fog conditions in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). On Monday morning (today), the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius which is the season’s lowest.
Foggy mornings and low visibility to continue
As per the weather forecast agency, dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail for a few hours in night/morning in many parts of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on January 15-16.
Besides, isolated pockets of Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland among other states will witness the foggy mornings.
IMD recorded visibility on Sunday mentioned Delhi’s Palam & Safdarjung at 0 each, Ridge & Aya Nagar- 25 each; Jammu-25; Punjab’s Patiala at 25, Amritsar, Ludhiana-50 each; Haryana-Chandigarh: Ambala, Chandigarh-25 each, Hisar- 50; West Uttar Pradesh: Meerut, Bareilly-50 each; East Uttar Pradesh: Lucknow & Gorakhpur -25 each, Sultanpur -200; Bihar: Purnea-25, Sabaur & Bhagalpur-200 each, Patna- 500; West Bengal: Jalpaiguri-25; Assam: Dhubri & Guwahati -50 each, Tezpur, Dibrugarh/Mohanbari -200; Tripura: Agartala-200; Coastal Andhra Pradesh: Tirupathi, Bapatla Machilipatnam -200 each.
Rainfall and Snowfall update
The northeast monsoon rains have ceased over Kerala-Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-Karaikal, Rayalaseema, and adjoining areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam from January 14, 2024.
A fresh feeble western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from January 16, 2024. Under its influence, light rainfall/snowfall at isolated places is very likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh on January 16 & 17 and Uttarakhand on January 17.
